Margaret Galvin is a Tipperary writer, long time resident in Wexford. Margaret Galvin is a Tipperary writer, long time resident in Wexford. A former Editor of Ireland’s Own magazine, she has published five collection of poetry: The Waiting Room (Doghouse, 2005), The Wishbone (Wexford County Council 2007), The Wardrobe Mistress (Lapwing, 2009), The Scattering Lawns (Lapwing, 2013) and The Finer Points (Cahir Historical Society, 2019). She has also worked with the Arts Office, Tipperary County Council to compile and edit two collections of work by her fellow Tipperary Writers, Around Each Bend and a Bealtaine publication, Bridging the Distance.
Described as ‘gritty and unsentimental’, (Dr. Francis Devlin-Glass), her poetry had attracted a number of literary prizes including The Brendan Kennelly Award, the Francis Ledwidge, The Ballybunion Poetry Prize and The Michael Mullen Award. Her reminiscence essays are often broadcast on RTE 1, ‘Sunday Miscellany.’
Margaret frequently facilitates writing workshops for diverse groups of people including those with disability/support needs, those dealing with chronic pain, carers and those completely new to writing. Her academic background is in Social Care; she combines this with an interest in therapeutic writing and also facilitates within this remit.
