Maureen White is a writer, dramaturg and head of First Year Acting at the Gaiety School of Acting. Her first novel The Butterfly Shell (for Young Adults) was published by O’Brien Press and was shortlisted for a Literacy Associations of Ireland Book Award and IBBY Ireland Honour List. Her play Unravelling the Ribbon (co-written with Mary Kelly) was shortlisted for Europa Donna Breast Cancer Awareness Award. Maureen is originally from Canada where she was a founding member of Nightwood Theatre- Canada’s oldest professional women’s theatre company. She also works as a freelance dramaturg both in Canada and Ireland. Some of the writers she has worked with include: Karen Egan, Louis Lovett, Arthur Riordan, Sonia Kelly, Hilary Fannin. She was also dramaturg with Rough Magic Theatre Company where she worked with writers on the SEEDS programme to develop new work. Maureen is currently teaching at the Gaiety School of acting and working on her second novel.
