Billy O’Callaghan was born in Cork in 1974, and is the critically acclaimed author of four short story collections and two novels: most recently the novel, “My Coney Island Baby”, which was published in 2019 by Jonathan Cape (and Harper in the U.S.), and translated into eight languages; and a collection, “The Boatman, and Other Stories”, published by Jonathan Cape (UK) & Harper (US) in 2020.
Winner of the Irish Book Award for Short Story of the Year and a finalist for the Costa Short Story Award among numerous other honours, Billy’s work has been translated into over a dozen languages. More than 100 of his short stories have been published: in Agni; the Chattahoochee Review; the Kenyon Review; Ploughshares; Salamander; the Saturday Evening Post and many other journals and magazines around the world.
Billy’s new novel, “Life Sentences”, will be published by Jonathan Cape in 2021.
