Rosie Schaap is the author of the Drinking with Men: A Memoir. Her second book, Becoming a Sommelier, came out in 2019. Her new book, The Slow Road North: How I Found Peace in an Improbable Country, comes out this August. She was a columnist for The New York Times Magazine from 2011 to 2017, and has also written for the New York Times book review food, opinion, sports, and travel sections, and Food & Wine, The Irish Times, Marie Claire, and Travel + Leisure. Her essays have appeared in anthologies including Eat Joy: Stories and Comfort Food from 31 Celebrated Writers and the revised edition of Goodbye to All That: Writers on Loving and Leaving New York. She was previously employed as a community organizer, an editor, a bartender, a librarian at a paranormal society, and a manager of homeless shelters. Born and raised in New York City, she has lived in Glenarm, on the Antrim Coast, since 2019.
