Sadie Harpur was born and raised in Dublin as a foster child with her twin sister Kizzy. She now lives in Gorey, Co Wexford with her husband and their three children, and works locally as a Special Needs Assistance.
Her first book, The Hidden World of a Foster Girl, was published at the beginning of 2024 and is dedicated to the memory of her much-missed foster-brother Gary, who died by suicide.
Suffering from learning difficulties resulting from undiagnosed dyslexia, Sadie was described as mentally below average, and suffered bouts of depression, suicidal thoughts and was repeatedly bullied. She endured serious teenage problems, including self-harming, violent outbursts and zero self-esteem.
She dealt with these issues by keeping diaries which included her poems, some of which have been published in two anthologies of Wexford Women Writing Undercover and were an important resource when it came to preparing her book.
