Sinead is the youngest contributor to Write By the Sea’s 2019 programme. Born in Wexford in 2005, she came to national attention when she won the top prize in her category at last year’s Trócaire/Poetry Ireland Poetry Competition with her poem ‘The Olive Tree’. This followed her success the previous year when her poem ‘Foreboding’ won a runner-up prize in the same competition. A student at Loreto Secondary School in Wexford, Sinéad has always loved writing. She finds that the best time to write is early in the morning, in the company of her cat Nellie. She is an avid reader and she especially likes to read the works of Irish authors such as Alice Taylor, Mary Lavin and Patricia Lynch. Her taste in poetry is wide and varied with Eavan Boland, Seamus Heaney and Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill among her favourites. And, of course, Paula Meehan! Sinéad loves music, everything from Bach to Echo & The Bunnymen. She herself plays harp, violin and piano. A great believer in mens sana in corpore sano she also enjoys running and yoga.
