Room to Write session in progress at Stella Maris Centre

Room To Write is off to a Flying 2020 Start

The first Room to Write of 2020 took place in the Stella Maris Centre on Saturday the 11th of January.  Buoyed up by New Year’s Resolutions to simply make time to write this year, the enthusiastic writers were guided by our skilful Resident Facilitator Fintan Murphy.

Spotlight on our Resident Facilitator

Fintan Murphy was born in Mayglass, Co Wexford, and has been involved in amateur drama and literary pursuits all his life. His work in the civil and public services took him to various parts of Ireland, before returning to Wexford. His love of his home areas of Forth and Bargy and his time in Co Clare and the Gaeltacht areas of Kerry and Connemara informs much of his writing.

He has had poetry, short stories, articles and humorous pieces published in various newspapers, magazines, journals and anthologies. For the stage he has written award-winning adaptations of Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors, and of his own short story a Bit of a Break. His first book of poetry Slender Toward the Sky was published in 2006 and was a local best-seller.

Join us next month

You’re welcome to join Fintan and fellow writers for our next Room To Write which takes place in the Stella Maris Centre on Saturday the 8th of February (10:00-13:00) and on the second Saturday of every month [except September, when we’ll be busy preparing for the 5th annual Write By The Sea Literary Festival, 25th-27th of September].  You don’t have to be a famous writer – just someone who has pen and paper and a burning desire to get writing! Admission plus refreshments is only €5 – sure where would you get it!
